What you'll leave with
- Your own custom-designed rug, 40 x 50cm, finished by you.
- Hands-on technique with all three tufting gun types: cut pile, loop pile, and long pile.
- A guide to building your own tufting frame at home.
Workshop in detail
Get your hands into wool and yarn with Hannah, of the Shaggies team, and spend five hours turning a blank canvas into your own rug. You start by choosing your design, whether that is an idea of your own, something pulled from Shaggies' Pinterest board and Instagram, or the look books of past students' work kept in the shop.
Then Hannah shows you what to look for in fabric and wool before your design gets transferred onto the canvas. The tufting itself uses all three gun types, cut pile, loop pile, and long pile, so your rug can carry real depth instead of one flat texture throughout.
Once the tufting is finished, you finish the piece yourself: shaving, sculpting, gluing, and backing it into something ready to hang on your wall. A full lunch, plus unlimited coffee, tea, and snacks, is included, and Hannah is known for noticing exactly when someone needs a hand, the same warmth guests keep coming back for.
