About Handworks
Three hours,
one expert,
one craft.
We started Handworks because the best afternoons we'd ever had in Amsterdam all happened in rooms you can't book online, a bakery at six in the morning, a ceramicist's garage, a fermenting cellar under a canal house.
A letter, rather than a mission statement
Amsterdam holds a quiet community of people who have practised one thing well for decades. Bakers. Ceramicists. Florists. Beekeepers. Fermenters. Woodworkers. Most of them are hard to find on purpose, they're working, not marketing.
We kept meeting them by accident, and every single time we walked out thinking: why doesn't everyone get to do this? The standard day out in this city skips them entirely. Museums, canals, a queue.
So Handworks is our answer, and it's a small one. An afternoon at someone's bench. Flour on your sleeves. A tutor who has given their life to one thing and is, for three hours, entirely yours. Knowledge that only ever travels in person.
We're not a marketplace with a thousand listings. We're a short list we'd stake our own name on, because we do, every time you book.

Four rules we don't bend.

We visit before we list.
Every artisan on Handworks has been sat with, talked to, and quietly watched at work. If we haven't stood in the room, it isn't on the site.

We say no, often.
Most studios we visit don't end up here. Not because they aren't good, because teaching is its own craft, and not everyone wants to do it generously.

Small rooms only.
Four to eight people. Enough for a kitchen to feel full, few enough that you can ask the daft question you'd never ask in a class of thirty.

You leave with something real.
A loaf, a bowl, a bouquet, a jar, and the part that lasts longer: knowing how it's actually done.
