About Handworks
Three hours, one expert, one craft.
Handworks brings you into Amsterdam's kitchens, cellars, and workshops — alongside the people who actually do this for a living. You learn by doing. You leave knowing something real.
Why we exist
Amsterdam holds a quiet community of artisans practising one thing well, often for decades — bakers, ceramicists, florists, beekeepers, fermenters, woodworkers. Most of them are difficult to find on purpose. They are working, not marketing.
The standard Amsterdam day out skips past them entirely. We thought there was room for something else: a way for curious people to spend an afternoon at the bench of someone who has given their life to one craft, and to come away with knowledge that only ever travels in person.
How we curate
Every artisan on Handworks has been visited in person, talked to at length, and quietly admired. We look for makers whose work is honest, whose teaching is generous, and whose studio you'd want to spend three hours in. We say no often.
Workshops are small by design — usually four to eight guests — so there is room to ask the small questions, to make mistakes, and to leave with something you've made entirely with your own hands.
