Craft your own traditional arrow from natural materials, then watch it take flight from a handcrafted bow

What you'll leave with

  • Your own handmade arrow, decorated with feathers and natural pigments and unique to you
  • An understanding of how traditional arrows are made and why each part matters
  • The basics of archery: stance, grip, and release, taught by Thomas himself

Workshop in detail

Step inside the workshop of traditional bowyer and arrow maker Thomas Ravestein, where natural materials are transformed into functional archery equipment through a combination of traditional craftsmanship, practical experience, and a sense of timeless esthetic.

Surrounded by handcrafted bows, arrows, and the tools of the trade, you'll get a rare glimpse into the workshop where this traditional craft is still practised today.

Thomas begins by sharing the history of the arrow: how it evolved, why every component matters, and how generations of craftspeople refined its design long before modern manufacturing existed.

Working from a carefully prepared wooden shaft, you'll create your own functional arrow using natural materials. Fit and shape the feathers, decorate your arrow with traditional pigments, and finish it with your own personal markings. Every arrow is unique, reflecting the character and craftsmanship of its maker.

Once your arrow is complete, it's time to see it in action. Using one of Thomas' handcrafted traditional bows, you'll learn the fundamentals of instinctive archery and experience the satisfaction of shooting an arrow you made yourself.

At the end of the workshop, you'll leave not only with a handcrafted arrow, but also with a deeper appreciation for the materials, techniques, and craftsmanship that have connected people with the natural world for thousands of years.
