Choose your colors, connect laser-cut fabric puzzle pieces by hand, and leave with a bracelet, earrings, or necklace you assembled yourself.

1

A finished wearable accessory: a necklace, earrings or bracelet assembled entirely by you

2

An understanding of Iris's laser-cut textile technique and how the pieces connect without stitches

3

The option to return and try a different form: the same base pieces, a completely different result

Workshop in detail

Sit down with Iris at her atelier on Prinseneiland and piece together a wearable accessory from laser-cut fabric puzzle pieces. The technique is hers: she developed it during her graduation at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute in 2011, experimenting with laser cutting until she found a way to connect small interlocking fabric pieces entirely by hand, no sewing machine, no stitches, no glue. The resulting shapes hold together and move, and look like nothing made any other way. You start by choosing your colors. Iris has a range available in the atelier; if you have a specific combination in mind, get in touch beforehand and she will have the pieces puzzle-ready when you arrive. Then Iris will guide you through the technique, and you begin connecting. The repetitive click of each piece slotting into the next is, as Iris puts it, good for a busy mind. The shape builds gradually and entirely in your hands. After 2.5 hours you leave with a finished piece: a classic necklace in one or two colors, a pair of earrings with a bracelet, or one of several other combinations depending on the option you choose. If you go for the Rosette necklace (€115) or the Flower, size L (€140), Iris will talk you through those in the atelier, and for the Flower it is possible to take the finishing touches home if you need more time.
