Get to know bees and pollinators

Workshop in detail

Somewhere in Amsterdam, Geert keeps bees. These three evenings, he opens up the hive for you.
The course runs over three Wednesday evenings at Lab111, two and a half hours each. It starts wider than most people expect. It is not just about honeybees. Solitary bees, bumblebees, and wasps each hold a different piece of the ecosystem, and Geert walks you through what each one does and what we lose without them. Then come the pressures: mites, habitat loss, climate change, and the Asian giant hornet. He does not soften them.
Midway through the course you get your hands on what the hive actually produces. Raw honey, pollen, beeswax, and propolis, tasted and handled side by side. Then Geert brings in his own stories from years of keeping bees in the city: what surprised him, what went wrong, and what he would do differently. The last session widens again, to beekeeping practices from around the world and to practical steps for turning any garden, balcony, or street into a place pollinators want to be.
You leave with a working understanding of what bees need and how to support them, whether you want to keep a hive one day or simply want to know what is happening in your neighbourhood.
